Northeast Great Dane

Despite the fact that they are called Danes in English, they did not originate in Denmark. The breed of today originated in Germany. There is also some evidence that similar dogs lived in ancient Rome and Greece. It is said that Asiatic people invaded part of Germany in 407 A.D. and introduced a mastiff-like dog.

Despite their intimidating size, these dogs are very gentle and will only show anger when provoked. Though it is a large dog, it should not always be kept outside or in a kennel.
