This breed was developed in Germany and has nothing to do with Denmark. Comte de Buffon, a French Naturalist, once saw a Greyhound in Denmark, and thought it was the breed we are discussing now. This name stuck in the English-speaking world, and elsewhere, the breed is known as the German Dog.
